Client’s Success Story
“I am forever grateful to Nicky for getting me on to the straight and narrow and keeping me there! She had a tough brief, to get my heart and lungs really working but without putting any weight on my knee. Her bespoke, tailored approach has just worked so well for me. I can’t thank her enough!”
Hilary got in touch with FitActive Personal Training in July 2018 after a recommendation from a friend. Having sold the family business in which she had worked for a number of years, Hilary felt it was high time for her to focus on her own health and happiness.
During her working years, Hilary, a keen tennis player had been looking forward to spending lots of time during her retirement out on court. But in 2016, a knee injury sustained while skiing meant that she was unable to pursue her passion. Having undergone surgery to repair her knee, Hilary’s consultant explained that it would take no impact but it was nonetheless important to strengthen the muscles around the joint. Hilary realised this meant she not only needed to care for her knee strength but needed an alternative to tennis in order to keep herself fit.
Feeling that FitActive’s Fit in 45 exercise classes wouldn’t quite be suited to her particular needs, Hilary decided on twice-weekly one to one personal training sessions with FitActive Personal Training. She identified her key drivers for exercising to be weight loss, to improve her general conditioning and become more flexible.
58 year old Hilary loved the tailored twice-weekly 1:1 PT sessions at FitActive’s Cotswold-based studio gym. They were ever-varied and carefully designed to protect her knee joint. Thanks to our regular monitoring of her weight, Hilary soon found that she was meeting her weight-loss goals. Her BMI steadily decreased and by May 2018, was down to 26.6, from 29.4. For Hilary, that felt a good weight; she felt healthy and energised and was delighted at her toned legs, sculpted arms, trim waist and a dress size of 14, down from a size 16/18.
Having had heart issues in the past, in September 2018, Hilary needed to undergo a cardio-version procedure to correct an irregular heart rhythm. After this, her cardiologist emphasised that she should, “Exercise four times a week for 45 minutes, getting the heart rate up and maintaining the correct BMI” Working with support from FitActive, Hilary did just that, building her heart and lung conditioning during our 1:1 personal training sessions as well as taking exercise outside of the gym.
Within a few months, she had transitioned to a road bike and over the summer lockdown of 2020, she started training for a 57 mile cycling challenge. In September 2020 a couple of days after the event, she sent me the WhatsApp: I’d been waiting for:
I was shattered yesterday but feel refreshed this morning.
The lunges worked! X”
