Where and when
Every Tuesday 10.45 – 11.45
FitActive Studio Gym,
Gloucestershire, GL56 0XH
Class format
Based entirely outdoors, we start with a walk to warm up and get the heart and lungs working. We then return to base for circuit-style muscular toning exercises.
If anyone gets bored and restless, we take in another loop around the village, using the opportunity to settle the babies as a chance for some cardio intervals. We round off the session with stretching.
Post-natal exercise can do a lot to help you feel better by giving you more energy, an increased rate of weight loss and a faster recovery post-natally. Fellow mums are a great support network, so if you are in or around Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds or the Chipping Norton area, come along and meet some new friends in your area who share a wish to get active with their babies.
Frequently Asked Questions
The purpose of my specialist post-natal exercise classes is to support recovery during the post-natal period. We will work on regaining core strength and pelvic floor function and help your body cope with the demands of feeding, nursing and carrying your baby.
You must have received the “all clear to exercise” from your GP at your six or twelve week post-natal check.
Please call to book your place and I will email you a short health questionnaire for you to complete before you come along. Before commencing exercise, we will run through your form and carry out a quick check on your stomach muscles to ensure they are coming together nicely. Please arrive a little early as this will take around 15 minutes.
Feed before you come to the class, it makes it more comfortable for you and it gives us a better chance of a contended baby while the class is running.
Wear comfortable, breathable exercise clothing and suitable footwear. Ensure you have a supportive sports bra, it’s worth treating yourself to a new one if your vital statistics have changed during pregnancy and early motherhood!
It’s important to stay well hydrated, especially if you are breast-feeding, so please bring a drink along with you.
Come equipped for the weather, too. A sun shade for the buggy on bright days, a rain cover for chilly and/or wet days, sun hats and sun screen as necessary. If the weather’s looking unpredictable, the best bet is layers so that you can add or take away, depending on the conditions.
We go out in all weathers unless it is snowing, icy or very heavy rain. It’s easy to keep babies warm and dry, so you just need to be sure that you dress for the weather. Please check my facebook page and this website when it’s bad weather. I will update both if the class is not running.
The answer is that everyone is different and you are “post-natal” for as long as you feel you are. In terms of the post-natal exercise class, there is no right or wrong answer. It’s as long as your baby is happy to be in a buggy for an hour or so, and as long as you feel that the class is working for you.
Rediscover the pre-pregnancy you – she really is in there somewhere!
